The new concrete deck for the Wistar Road bridge will be poured into place on Friday.

Contractor Eastern Highway Specialists will pour the deck of the new Wistar Road bridge that crosses the Queen Anne Creek in Bristol Township’s Fairless Hills section between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Crews will begin their work at 5 a.m.

Township Manager Bill McCauley said the municipality will be waiving requirements for hours of construction on Friday.

“The contractor needs more than 12 hours to pour the deck on the bridge, so we will be waiving the hours of construction in the township Code for one day,” he said.

McCauley apologized to nearby residents who may be inconvenienced by the early start time.

“Pouring the deck in one day is best for the bridge and will get us to completion sooner,” he stated.

The bridge is expected to be reopened by July 1. It closed for work in mid-February.

The span was dedicated in 1978. Over the past 10 years, portions of the bridge deck had deteriorated and plates were used to cover holes over the creek.

The township awarded a $1,285,000 contract to Eastern Highway Specialists for the replacement of the bridge earlier this year. In 2018, the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Bucks awarded the township $300,000 from the funds generated by Parx Casino to put toward the project.
