Former Middletown detective Daniel Baranoski will hold onto his district judge seat for six more years.
The incumbent district judge will be the only candidate on the Democratic and Republican ticket come fall. On Tuesday, he beat back challenger Steve Castle, the owner of a garden center and a retired Lower Southampton police officer.

The race between Baranoski and Castle, both registered Republicans, was heated and even led to legal challenges.
Much of the drama centered around the fact that Baranoski’s court absorbed Lower Southampton after that district court was shuttered. Castle had previously run for district judge in his hometown before the district courthouse was closed.
“I would like to congratulate my opponent Judge Dan Baranoski for being the victor in this close race. I have called Dan and conceded the race to him. He was very gracious and I trust that as time moves on we will work to restore honor in our party. I wish Dan success in another six years of being the judge of our combined community,” Castle said in a statement to his supporters following his loss.

Baranoski’s court covers Hulmeville, Langhorne, Langhorne Manor, Lower Southampton, Penndel, and part of Middletown.
