A portion of Woodbourne Road was closed this past Saturday for the annual Bucks County Soapbox Derby, an staple that has been celebrated since 1956.
The race took place from Five Points to Cobalt Cross Road in Middletown, with all participants going one after another to see who’s soapbox car is the fastest.

From a tent set up in the middle of the closed-off road, car after car was loaded to be sent off down Woodbourne Road. Among those racing were brothers Mason and Ethan, whose soapbox cars sported advertisements for local businesses.
The brothers were set up next to each other, eagerly waiting to go next.
“I’ve lost once and won once,” Mason said, referring to the multiple times contestants can race. He added that he was confident that he would be winning his next round.

The race director, Kim McCauley, discussed the race as a local tradition and how the derby holds stock and super stock races. These are rules and regulations that determine how a soapbox car is built, in accordance with the All American Soap Box Derby.
The race’s winners, Annabella Capaldi and Jonathan Pajrowski, were announced via the event’s Facebook page that afternoon. Capaldi was the champion of the stock race and Pajrowski was champion of the super stock race.
