A fire at a chemical company was extinguished early Thursday morning.

An employee at Dunmore Corp. on Wharton Road in the Keystone Park complex off Veterans Highway (Route 413) in Bristol Township was working with a 55-gallon drum of flammable liquids when the drum caught fire unexpectedly around midnight, Fire Marshal  Kevin Dippolito said.

The employee was unhurt.

Firefighters and the building’s fire suppression system extinguished the fire within 15 minutes, Dippolito said.

The fire marshal said he is working with Dunmore Corp.’s managers to determine if static electricity was to blame for the fire sparking. However, if construction generators are installed in a building, these accidents can be avoided.

After the fire started, employees of the company cleared the building as crews began efforts to put out the fire.

Dunmore Corp. has been in business for nearly 50 years. It manufactures coated, laminated, and metallized films for a variety of industries.

The American, Hose, Hook, and Ladder, Croydon, Edgely, Levittown No. 2, Newport, Newportville, and Penndel fire companies responded to the scene. The Bucks County Rescue Squad sent an ambulance.
