After years of uncertainty, Chipotle Mexican Grill is planning to open in the Levittown area.

Late in the week, LevittownNow.com was able to confirm through the Middletown Department of Planning and Zoning that the fast casual restaurant chain is planning to open at site of the former Wells Fargo bank in the Lincoln Plaza shopping center near the Oxford Valley Mall.

Chipotle will be in the same building as the planned Metro Diner.

Across the parking lot at the site of a former big and tall store, the fast-casual Mediterranean eatery Zoës Kitchen and sandwich joint Melt Shop are being constructed.

A spokesperson for the shopping center was not immediately available. A message was left for the Chipotle media relations team, but it was not returned as of late Saturday morning.

Last summer, a mall spokesperson said the three previously-announced eateries are slated to open in spring 2019.

The Middletown Board of Supervisors approved plans for four eateries between the two buildings in 2017, but only three tenants were announced in the following months.

The latest plans are a throwback for Chipotle, which had proposed building a 2,150-square-foot eatery with outdoor seating in the parking lot of Lincoln Plaza in 2015. At that time, the chain planned to open at the vacant site of the former big and tall store, but plans were withdrawn due to issues with the site and a new site across the street was located.

This news organization reported earlier this week that the plans for a Chipotle and MOD Pizza in the Target shopping center across the street from Lincoln Plaza had fallen through and a Bank of America would be built in its place.

Simon Property Group, the owner of the mall and Lincoln Plaza, has worked over the past several years to woo new restaurants and retailers to the sprawling retail center.
