The Giant Food Store in Falls Township has opened a beer and wine section.
The food store in the Fairless Hills Towne Center off South Oxford Valley Road opened the Beer and Wine Eatery Thursday and will host a grand opening with beer and wine tastings on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“With more than 300 varieties of local and national brand beer and wine in our new Beer and Wine Eatery, there are plenty of options to choose from,” said Marlene Bower, store manager. “Our associates recently completed training on the available products and are ready to help our Fairless Hills customers make their selections whether looking for a perfect paring for a holiday meal or a gift idea.”
The store features a wide selection of domestic, imported, and craft beers along with wine. Giant also offers a “mix-a-six” option where customers can create their own six packs and purchase them. In addition, there are sandwiches, wraps, and salads for eat-in and take-out.
A Giant representative told the Falls Township Board of Supervisors earlier this year that the store has a 100 percent carding policy, meaning every customer is asked for identification at the time of purchase. Store personnel have also taken part in training to determine if someone is intoxicated and how to spot a fraudulent ID.

The food store obtained its liquor license earlier this year and has now become the first major grocery store in the township to operate with a liquor license. However, the store is not the first in the area. Super markets in Bristol Township and Middletown have added beer and wine sales in recent years.
Over the past several years, Giant has been expanding with beer and wine sales at its stores by purchasing liquor licenses. A Giant spokesperson said there are currently 81 company stores that sell beer and wine.
