The woman who died Tuesday evening in Bristol Township was killed when a part of a tree fell on her, police said Wednesday.
The woman, whose name was not released, was found after police and firefighters were called around 6:40 p.m. to the densely wooded lot next to the AMF Bristol Pike Lanes on Bristol Pike.
Witnesses told investigators the woman’s son was at a homeless camp in the woods notching a dead tree so it would fall away from the camp. The tree ended up snapping, fell away from the camp, and ended up coming back toward the camp after striking a nearby standing tree. A 50-foot section of the falling tree ended up hitting the woman’s tent, landing on her torso.

An autopsy performed Wednesday morning showed the woman died from blunt trauma to the chest. Her injuries appeared to line up with witness statements, police said.
The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office will make a final determination in the case.
