Officer Chuck Palmer said all participants have to be Bristol Borough residents and have to register at the police station by Saturday, August 25. A guardian must be present for the fishing event.

The Fish With A Cop event can host about 50 kids and will include face painting, spin art, food, a DJ, fishing equipment, and T-shirts. Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish caught.

Palmer, who grew up in Bristol, said the idea came about when he saw five kids fishing in the borough with only two poles. With the support of his colleagues, organization began for the inaugural Fish With A Cop.

“The whole point is to give the kids something to do other than sitting around and having idle hands,” he said, adding it can help improve relations with the community.

Donations can be made with Walmart gift cards that will be used to buy fishing gear and supplies. Donations can be dropped off at the police station.
