UPDATE: Police Charge Man Who Allegedly Pointed Gun

One man is being sought and another was arrested during a Friday afternoon incident that drew a large police presence.

A Pennsylvania State Police trooper pulled over a “suspicious vehicle” – a dark gray Dodge Charger with a red or maroon trunk and a temporary Florida license tag T207777 – around 1:30 p.m. by the Wawa in the 3600 block of Street Road in Bensalem.

The trooper was speaking with the passenger from the Charger and attempted to pat him down for weapons. At that point, the man fled on foot and the trooper pursued him, authorities said.

The trooper pulled his Taser and the fleeing passenger turned around while displaying a dark-colored handgun, authorities said.

The trooper reached for his gun and radioed for assistance.

The suspect managed to hop a fence and lose troopers and officers, authorities said.

While the foot chase was underway, the driver of the Charger drove away and had not been located as of early Friday evening.

Officers from Bensalem, Penndel, and other nearby departments rushed to the scene. A perimeter was set up and a K-9 unit began a track to find the suspect who fled on foot, authorities said.

Shortly before 3 p.m., the suspect was located in a backyard and arrested, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said, adding the gun was recovered.

The suspect who was captured was not formally charged as of 5:30 p.m., but authorities said charges will be filed.

Despite some early conflicting information, no shots were fired by the suspect or the trooper.

“The Pennsylvania State Police, and all police officers in Bucks County, are sworn to protect us,” District Attorney Matt Weintraub said. “Sometimes that means drawing a weapon and firing. Sometimes that means drawing a weapon and not firing.

“I am relieved to say that the armed subject of today’s manhunt has been apprehended with no shots fired and no injuries,” he said. “His gun has been recovered. I commend all law enforcement, including the Pennsylvania State Police and the Bensalem Police Department, for the professional manner in which they handled this critical incident.”
