A 24-year-old homeless man was arrested for allegedly ransacking his father’s apartment and breaking his cane.
According to police, Ryan Robert Dougherty’s father, who uses a cane due to a leg injury, contacted police to tell them he came home from work Wednesday to find his son inside his unit at the Orangewood Apartments. He said the residence was ransacked and Dougherty left on a silver and primer bicycle.

Dougherty’s father was upset when a detective arrived and he claimed his son broke his cane. He said the 24 year old threatened to hurt him if he did not give him money. Dougherty’s father initially refused and Dougherty began breaking items in the apartment, according to court papers.
Fearing serious injury, Dougherty’s father eventually gave him $20, court papers noted.
The detective wrote that Dougherty’s father cannot stand of walk without the aid of a cane or other device.

Hours before the incident, the detective said he was at the apartment and no one had answered the door. A silver and primer-colored bicycle with the word “flesh” handwritten on it was outside. It was not noted in court papers why the detective was visiting the apartment.
Dougherty was charged Friday morning with two counts of robbery and single counts of theft, terroristic threats, receiving stolen property, harassment, and criminal mischief. Arraignment took place before on-call District Judge Gary Gambardella at 4:15 a.m. Friday and he was jailed on 10 percent of $250,000 bail.
