A summer trip with friends has changed the life of Luke Tynan and his family.

Tynan was standing on a pier in Cambridge, Maryland, which sits on the Choptank River just off the Chesapeake Bay, last July 3 when he fell into the water. The impact of the short fall caused Tynan’s vertebrae to fracture in numerous locations, his father Bill Tynan explained.

“He didn’t even hit anything hard in the water.”

“[His friends] thought he was kidding at first, but he wasn’t moving,” Bill Tynan said.

Luke Tynan’s friends, some of whom worked as lifeguards, recognized he may have had a spinal injury and used a table to steady him while they transported him to the hospital.

Doctors examined Luke Tynan and had him transported via helicopter to a trauma center for further treatment.

Weeks later, he was released to a rehabilitation center in the Philadelphia area and began his journey to recovery.

Improvements have come slowly and have been hard-fought, but the Tynan family remains optimistic.

Due to his injuries, Luke Tynan has been left with limited use from his shoulders down. However, his family said he has made considerable progress. Innovations in treatment give hope to any severe injury victim. The Plymouth injury law firm those who endured serious injuries could revive with the help of advanced treatments which they could afford with the help of compensations.

Luke Tynan said he is working toward walking again and has been gaining strength.

Bill and Lori Tynan said they are committed to their son’s recovery and are starting to tally the medical bills. They are also looking at improvements for their Langhorne Borough home to better accommodate his wheelchair.

That’s where the Langhorne Borough Business Association came in to offer some help paying down bills.

The group recently presented the Tynan family with a $10,000 check to help cover some expenses during a short ceremony at the Middletown Country Club. The money was raised through the Langhorne Borough Business Association’s June car show and at the direction of association officer John Keefe.

“It’s really nice to have all the support behind me,” Luke Tynan said.

“It’s overwhelming that the community comes out and does this for us,” Bill Tynan said. “We’re just ordinary people in the community.”
