The Wister Road bridge that crosses the Queen Anne Creek in Bristol Township is deteriorating.
Township Engineer Kurt Schroeder of Gilmore and Associates said Thursday evening that the already damaged bridge deck has become worse and the damage is expanding. A steel plate has sat on the bridge covering some of the damage for the past few years.

The main hold up on the project is the cost of the bridge deck replacement, which is already designed and permitted, Schroeder said.
Bristol Township received two bids in February that put the cost of the project at more than $1 million. The township had initially estimated it would only cost about $800,000 and put money aside in its 2018 budget.
The township is applying to obtain grant funding to help cover the cost of the necessary repair, officials said.

In 2014, the bridge was closed for more than a month for some minor repair work that cost a few thousand dollars.
