โ€œFrom the first line of โ€˜Among the Bones,โ€™ I was pulled into this womanโ€™s world, her mind fading due to dementia, yet holding onto one, specific memory of her time working in a funeral parlor as a teenager,โ€ the judges wrote of Nolanโ€™s winning entry. โ€œThe story delves into her experience at the morgue and her fascination with the bodies that she observes and the questions she has about the lives lived and the secrets taken to the grave. This memory forces her to confront her own mortality, knowing that death isnโ€™t too far away for her, either.โ€

The second place winner wasย Rachel Hoenisch, an 18-year-old senior at Neshaminy High School, for her story โ€œThe Huntress.โ€

Third place went toย Marissa Klien, a 17-year-old senior at Central Bucks West, for her story โ€œThe Fates.โ€
