After collecting more than 10,000 pounds on unwanted or unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs last fall, local police and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office are hosting another collection event this Saturday.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day happens this Saturday from from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will take place at dozens of sites throughout the county, several in the Levittown area. The event is free and completely anonymous.

The bi-annual collection event gives residents a chance to safely get ride of unwanted, unused or expired medications that otherwise may end up being used illegally or in the public water system.

“Nearly 70 percent of people who abuse prescription pain relievers get them from their friends or family. As our community continues to grapple with the devastating effects of the opioid epidemic, it is crucial we take every step possible to stop prescription medication from falling into the wrong hands,” Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick said.

Bucks County is a statewide leader in the program and collect thousands of pounds of drugs every take-back day.
