A former lawman was sentenced to probation after a bizarre series of incidents at a county park.

Former Bucks County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Stephen R. Springfield, 39, of Bristol Township, was sentenced to a year of probation Friday afternoon at the Bucks County Justice Center in Doylestown. He was ordered by the judge to continue treatment he is currently engaged in until discharged, Deputy District Attorney Matthew Lannetti said.

In March, Springfield submitted a plea of guilty for a single misdemeanor second-degree charge of indecent exposure, according to court records.

As first reported LevittownNow.com last year, Springfield was charged by authorities in early October after he allegedly was “appearing to masturbate” while watching pornogrphy in the parking lot off Bath Road at Silver Lake Park in Bristol Township. He was off-duty at the time and offered a woman candy, which she refused at the time.

Springfield returned to the park in the days following the incident and acted strange, authorities wrote in court papers.

In speaking with an investigator, the then-sheriff’s deputy said he was only urinating in a bottle at the park. He later added that he was viewing porn and admitted to “probably exactly what they said.”

“I was excited,” Springfield reportedly told an investigator when asked what else happened at the park.

Shortly after his arrest, Springfield resigned from his deputy sheriff’s office job.

“Mr. Springfield has resolved his previously troubling issues and looks forward to the next chapter of his life . He is a new man,” Lou Busico, Springfield’s attorney, told LevittownNow.com.

The sheriff’s office was not involved in the investigation, which was handled by the Bucks County Rangers and Bucks County Detectives.
