A right lane closure northbound on Route 1 will impact motorists traveling between I-95 and the Oxford Valley interchanges beginning Wednesday and lasting through Friday from 7 p.m. through 5 a.m.

The lane closures, according to PennDOT are related to a construction project aimed at enhancing travel and safety northbound on Route 1 through Route 13 (Bristol Pike) and Route 32 in Falls, Middletown, and Lower Makefield townships.
Crews will be milling, paving, and removing a temporary barrier to improve Route 1 by providing northbound motorists two through lanes while maintaining an exit to Route 32. The construction work would remove the exit only lane that currently exists for northbound drivers at this interchange. In addition, a concrete barrier will be placed between Route 1 North and the on-ramp from Route 13 to eliminate the substandard weave condition that currently exists when Route 13 drivers enter Route 1 and weave through traffic to reach the Route 32 exist ramp. The scope of work also includes construction of an additional auxiliary lane along northbound U.S. 1 at Oxford Valley Road; milling and overlay with a high-friction surface treatment on Route 1 south in the area of Route 32; and replacement of overhead signs throughout the project area.
Motorists traveling in the area are advised to allow extra time when traveling through this work zone. As always, the scheduled construction work is weather dependent.

The project is expected to cost $2.3 million and is being paid through federal funds.
James D. Morrissey Inc. of Philadelphia has been hired as the general contractor and is expected to complete the project by summer.
