Community College Journalists Win Statewide Awards

Student journalists took home nine awards from the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association Foundation.

The journalists at Bucks County Community College’s The Centurion student newspaper earned nine Student Keystone Press Awards recently. Since it began entering the journalism contest in 2010, The Centurion staff has won 93 awards in the statewide two-year college division.

Journalism Professor Tony Rogers said the awards reflect on the quality of the journalism produced by the students at the community college.

“I think it shows that even at a community college paper, where staff turnover is a constant, you can still produce really good journalism,” said Rogers. “The fact that the Centurion has won so many awards is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all the paper’s editors and reporters, year in and year out.”

The following awards were presented to the students at the America East Media Business and Technology Conference in Hershey on March 14:
