After a controversial Bristol Borough Council meeting, it seemed like a maintenance contract between the borough and Leo Plenski might have a questionable future.

In addition to the contract that Plenski holds with the borough, he also holds a smaller contract with the school district to perform minor maintenance on school sports fields. These duties include lining fields and cleaning up after games, council officials said during their last meeting.

A small portion of Plenski’s contract with the borough includes work for the school district. If Plenski were to resign from the school district contract, or the district were to hire someone to perform the duties, the borough would expect some sort of reimbursement for the work Plenski performs for the district as part of the borough contract.

Borough officials have said they have not heard that Plenski would not continue his agreement to maintain their fields.

However, the Bristol Borough School Board did not make mention of any potential action regarding Plenski’s position at their March 15 meeting. Board member John D’Angelo confirmed that the district will be moving forward under the assumption that Plenski will continue the field maintenance as he has done in the past.

On Tuesday, February 27, Plenski was charged for his alleged connection to an illegal gambling ring being run out of the St. Annโ€™s Athletic Association.

The contract between the municipality and Plenski is for $12,000 each year. For the months that the baseball fields are used, Plenski grades, turns and otherwise gets the fields ready for play. He serviced fields that are used by high school teams and little league teams.

Plenski’s supporters, including little league officials, spoke on his behalf at the council meetings, arguing vehemently on his behalf and vouching for his hard work.
