Trash Truck Engulfed By Flames Along Mill Creek Parkway

A trash truck went up in flames late Monday morning in Bristol Township’s Levittown section.

The 1990s-model trash truck belonging to waste hauler J.P. Mascaro and Sons caught on fire as it traveled along Mill Creek Parkway just past Haines Road. Fire companies were dispatched around 11:40 a.m. after the driver spotted flames coming from behind the cab.

The flames quickly spread to the enclosed trash compartment and the cab became engulfed by fire, Edgely Fire Company Chief Joe Cavanaugh said.

The front of the trash truck was destroyed along with all hydraulic controls and firefighters were unable to empty the rear compartment filled with trash. The large snorkel truck from Levittown Fire Company No. 1 was brought in to flood the trash compartment with thousands of gallons of water, Cavanaugh said.

No injuries were reported.

Bristol Township Fire Police closed Mill Creek Road between Edgely Road and Haines Road for about two hours.

Crews from the Bristol Township Fire Marshal’s Office and Third District Fire Company were also on the scene.
