While the winter games in PyeongChang are underway, Faith Baptist Church of Fairless Hills hosted its “wacky” annual Winter Olympics event.
The event at the church has been going on for more than 10 years. The goal, event organizers said, is to give Lower Bucks County kids something to do in a safe environment in the middle of winter, at a time when it can be tough to get outside.

“It’s just a good opportunity for kids to come together and have a good time,” explained Jeremy Coverett, the childrens” ministry director at Faith Baptist Church.
The event usually brings out around 100 kids.
Although the event is similar in structure each year, the theme this year was centered on the actual Winter Olympics. As a result, each of the events in the church was an Olympic-themed competition with a twist. Kids participated in coffee-curling, slalom skiing, tandem skiing, marble bobsled racing and more.

Throughout the events, kids were divided into teams and age groups. From there, they moved around the room participating in the different activities.
The Winter Olympics are just one way for the church to continue outreach to the community. Throughout the year, Faith Baptist Church has a few free events open to the community, Coverett said.

“We are regularly seeking ways to reach out into the community,” Coverett said.
Chad Braley, the congregation’s pastor, was present to take in Saturday’s festivities.
