The man, who was set to be arraigned Sunday evening, was wanted for making threats to a family member through text messages that were sent Saturday night. There was some concern the man may have posed a risk to officers, Middletown police Chief Joseph Bartorilla.

Members of the regional SWAT team were setting up when the man peacefully surrendered to officers in his back yard on Hulmeville Avenue, Bartorilla said.

Police confiscated two firearms from the home, the chief said.
