Along with President Donald Trump signing the deal to end the government shutdown Monday evening, he also approved funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that insures kids in Pennsylvania and around the country.
The legislation signed by the president will keep the CHIP program funded for the next six years.

The program that helps keep kids from lower- and middle-income families insured is funded with a mix of federal and state funds. Due to the program being funded by about 90 percent federal dollars, the money was desperately needed to keep kids insured.
The new funding came just in the nick of time as CHIP was expected to run out of money at the end of January.
Support for CHIP came from Democrats and Republicans.

The program annually provides insurance for 9 million children across the country, 370,000 pregnant women and 180,000 kids in Pennsylvanian.
