A dog perished and a resident was burned in an early Thursday morning fire.

The cause of the fire that broke out shortly before 5 a.m. in the 300 block of Trenton Road in Falls Township’s Fairless Hills remained under investigation as of midday Thursday, Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said.

The female resident suffered second- and third-degree burns to her legs. The woman’s husband helped put out her flaming clothes, Dippolito said. He added that she was transported to Temple University Hospital’s burn unit for treatment.

Arriving firefighters showed up to the home and found flames shooting from the front of the home with the residents outside. Their dog was still inside and despite efforts to save him, the 3-year-old mixed-breed dog passed away.
