Bristol Township police said Friday evening that there was no danger to the public and that their case into a reported attempted abduction of a 10-year-old had been closed.

Lt. Ralph Johnson said there were “exceptional circumstances” that led to the incident in which a 10-year-old girl reported a car drove alongside her on Glenrose Avenue and told her to get inside Thursday afternoon.

“There’s no danger to anyone,” Johnson said, adding the incident has been sorted out.

Police were looking for a Chevrolet sedan that matched the girl’s account and was spotted on neighborhood surveillance video. They discovered the vehicle and another one that was nearly identical at the same West Bristol home. Investigators spoke to the owners and determined there was no luring attempt and the drivers had not even made contact with the girl as she ran home.

Ironically, the vehicle police were looking for after surveillance video was released drove behind the 4 p.m. live shot for NBC 10 reporter Deanna Durante.

The Bristol Township School District sent out a warning to parents Thursday evening and Friday morning following the initial report of the incident.
