On Tuesday afternoon, State Rep. John Galloway, a Democrat from Falls Township, announced he is supporting new gun legislation in Harrisburg.
The legislation, House Bill 1400, at its core requires background checks on the sales of all firearms. According to Galloway, a co-sponsor of the bill, the current criminal code on the books only apply to short-barrelled firearms. If HB1400 passes, all firearms will be subject to a background check.
The bill has 63 co-sponsors, including local State Rep. Tina Davis, a Democrat from Bristol Township.
“Our goal is to ensure all individuals attempting to obtain a firearm are legally authorized to do so,” Galloway explained in the Facebook post affirming his support for the gun legislation.
“As a co-sponsor, my goal is to act and put forth a measure that will ban weapons that have no place in our local communities. I will continue to advocate, sponsor, co-sponsor and provide my voting support to any gun legislation that will keep our citizens safe,” Galloway said.
HB1400 was first introduced by former Democratic State Rep. Steve Santarsiero.
State Rep. Frank Farry, a Republican from Langhorne, not be reached, but is not listed as co-sponsor of the bill.
