Tullytown officials are working to keep Canal Park enjoyable for all.

A number of complaints about kids climbing onto the pavilion, gazebo and play equipment and causing mischief at the park in recent weeks have been reported by LevittownNow.com readers. One reader said they have shied away from going to the park after seeing some of the behaviour by local teenagers.

An image reportedly from the park and posted on Instagram showed a boy with his bicycle atop the gazebo.

Chief of Police Daniel Doyle said his department is handling complaints along with borough officials. He said anyone caught committing illegal acts at the park will be prosecuted.

Aside from stepped up patrols in the area, the borough has been leaving the lights on at the park that sits behind the Levittown Walmart and the Kenwood section to give police and neighbors more visibility to what is happening after dark.

Neighbors have been keeping their eyes peeled and have reported several incidents, Doyle said.

“We encourage citizens and residents to work with us and call us if they see something,” the chief said.

A minor who was on the gazebo was identified and admitted to the mischief, Doyle said.

In June, Tullytown Council approved the $6,800 purchase of a camera system that will be installed at the park, according to meeting minutes. The system will monitor the park without invading the privacy of surrounding homes, officials said at the time.

The Canal Park opened in June and has proved popular, especially with families. It has bocce courts, a playground, a pavilion, a path and a gazebo. During shift breaks, it is not uncommon to see employees from the Levittown Town Center taking a stroll in the park.
