The effort to rebuild the Middletown Skate Park was in full effect on Thursday evening when community members met with project officials to offer feedback on the potential design of the park.
The meeting, taking place at the past and future site of the skate park at Middletown Community Park, gave community members a chance to look at potential designs for the skate park and offer feedback to the designers. A local design and construction firm, 5th Pocket Skate Parks, was charged with creating a design and detailed material list for the park.

So far, $16,800 has been raised for the skatepark. Once the group raises $100,000, the township will kick in the second $100,000, raising the total budget for the park to $200,000. Once more solid plans come to fruition, it will be easier to gather monetary and in-kind donations from local businesses and donors, Middletown officials said.
Amy Strouse, a supervisor on the Middletown Board of Supervisors, stopped by the meeting and said the group is working to get a few more grants.
“This is really important to get plans together to show businesses,” Strouse said.

Finalized plans will energize donors and the skate community alike.
In addition to working towards the skate park, the township is working to make the community park, situated along Langhorne-Yardley Road, more accessible by foot with wider sidewalks.
Rich Van Horn opened up his own skate shop in March of this year in Langhorne Borough. He has grown up in the area and has made skating a huge part of his life.

“I like everything in it,” Van Horn said, talking about the concepts brought to the meeting by Jesse Clayton of 5th Pocket Skateparks. ย “It’s all personal preferences, but if they were to put this down how it is presented, I would consider buying a house very close by.”
Getting to design the park means a lot to Clayton, as well.
“It just means a lot to design something in my hometown,” Clayton said.

5th Pocket Skateparks is responsible for delivering plans and a detailed material list to the township by Monday, October 2. Over the winter, fundraising will continue.
