The effort to restore Middletown’s stakepark had a lucrative Saturday at a fundraiser in Falls Township.

Eric Gernavage is one of those who organized the competition and continues to be a vocal proponent for the fundraising effort to restore the skatepark at Middletown Community Park. Before the Saturday competition, the funds raised for the park were at $25,000.ย According to Gernavage, the cause raised $1,221 through contest entries and raffle contributions.

According to Gernavage, about 34 skaters signed up to participate in the contest, but many more showed up.

“It was a good turnout, at least 100 people showed up,” Gernavage said.

“We need to make the money somewhere, and these are the people who want it the most, so if we can make the process fun for them, that is all the better,” Gernavage said.

The skatepark was closed by Middletown officials in 2014 and taken down in 2016 due to safety concerns.

According to Paul Kopera, the assistant director of parks and recreation in Middletown, the new skatepark will cost about $200,000.
