The 50th Mill Street run brought scores of runners and spectators to the main business street in town to partake.

The long-running tradition included races for high school boy and girl cross country teams, kids and an open race for all other participants. The 50th anniversary has been dubbed a celebration of fast, fun and family-friendly fitness.

After Saturday’s events, a ceremony and honorary lunch honored supporters of the run, including involved high school coaches, Merle Winslow, the Bristol Borough Emergency Management Coordinator and Rosemarie and Carol Mignoni, the event planning partners.

About 130 runners pre-registered for the run. An additional 35 registered on the day of the race, bringing the total runners up to 165.

“We’re very pleased with the number of runners we had,” said John Mundy, the founder and organizer of the race.

The Bristol Borough Business Association has been a longtime sponsor of the event. This year, a committee came together to gather sponsors and plan the race, according to Shea Cialella, the president of the BBBA.

Local businesses came together to support the run. Nameless Prints printed the event shirts, which were designed by Sarah Cialella, a high school student in Bristol Borough.

Planning for the 51st Mill Street Run was set to begin at about 2 p.m. on Saturday, Mumdy joked.
