A bus driver has been charged with allegedly being intoxicated while at work.
Bruce G. Prendergast Jr., 63, of Bristol Township’s Levittown section, will be sent a summons via mail on a charge of DUI while operating a school bus.

When LevittownNow.com broke the story, Middletown police said officials at Neshaminy High School summoned the school resource officer after it was suspected a bus driver was operating his vehicle while intoxicated.
According to court papers filed this week, Prendergast admitted to having one beer earlier in the day on Wednesday, May 31 and was reported to have the odor of alcohol coming from him. However, a portable breath test registered his blood-alcohol level as .059 percent, which is above the legal limit. The investigating officer did note that Prendergast did pass a field sobriety test.
The 63 year old was taken to St. Mary Medical Center and results from a blood draw showed his blood-alcohol level was .038 percent, court papers noted.

Students were on the bus at the time but all the high schoolers were removed and transferred to another bus.
