A fire that destroyed a home in Levittown Sunday night was caused by a laptop that was charging.
Middletown Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said an investigation has determined that the fire that ripped through the home at 32 Canal Road started either with a charging device or the laptop battery that was charging.

From there, the fire spread throughout the home and left flames shooting out the windows, according to neighbors.
McGuire said the residents were not home and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters from several companies responded to the scene and put down the flames. Their efforts, according to the fire marshal, were complicated by solar panels on the roof.

The problem with solar panels is that they can stay energized during fires and cause a safety risk for fire crews.
