The biggest day for local comic book shops is coming up on Saturday. Inside Wade’s Comic Madness on New Falls Road in Levittown, owner Wade Shaw and the staff had their hands full this week gearing up for the huge day.
By far, Free Comic Book Day is the busiest day of the year for Wade’s, according to Shaw.

The free books, local comic book writers, super heroes and juggler go a long way bringing people into the shop this Saturday. While they’re there, they usually end up getting something else from the store, Shaw explained.
Captain America, Star-Lord and Wonder Woman will be on hand on Saturday as well, to take pictures and sign books.
Wade’s has been taking part in Free Comic Book Day since the first one in 2002. Sixteen years later, Shaw still finds himself getting excited for the first Saturday of May each year.

“It’s definitely my favorite day you know, taking part in all of the sharing,” Shaw explained.
For the past few years, the store has also raised money for charity. This year, the store is raising money for St. Christopher’s Hospital. A staff member is celebrating 10 years in remission from cancer. When she got sick with cancer, St. Christopher’s saved her life, Shaw said.

“It’s a great day [to raise money] because this is our busiest day of the year,” Shaw explained. In addition to making money from sales. the store will also be having auctions and raffles of baskets and certain collectibles.
The store is open for its normal hours, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. No purchase is needed to receive a free comic, but the stacks and stacks of comics and collectibles probably make the likelihood of leaving with only your free comic pretty low.
According to Shaw, the store expects to give away ore than 10,000 free comic books on Saturday.

Publishers including Marvel, DC, Valiant and Image make low-cost editions of books for Free Comic Book Day. Stores buy them and give them away. Books for this year’s giveaway include Wonder Woman from DC, Guardians of the Galaxy and a Secret Empire book from Marvel and more.
