Dollar General’s purchase of 332 stores operated by North Carolina-based Dollar Express will mean layoffs in Bucks County.

Dollar Express, which operates the Family Dollar at 4551 New Falls Road in Levittown (Middletown) and 332 West Trenton Ave, Suite 11, in Morrisville (Falls Township), filed layoff notices with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry this month. The layoffs will impact 14 local jobs and nearly 150 throughout the state by the end of June.

The Philadelphia Inquirer first reported Wednesday that the Falls and Middletown stores will close after the sale between Dollar Express and Dollar General is completed and passes regulatory hurtles.

As LevittownNow.com noted in 2015, the 332 stores were sold to Sycamore Partners when the Family Dollar chain was acquired by Dollar Tree. Sycamore Partners opened Dollar Express as a subsidiary to operate the Family Dollar stores it acquired.

Some former Family Dollar stores will eventually reopen as Dollar General locations. However, the list has not been released, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Dollar General is based in Tennessee and operates 12,400 stores. It operates nearby stores on Pine Street in Langhorne Borough and along Route 13 in Bristol Borough. Last month, Falls Township officials approved construction of a new Dollar General retail location along Old Bristol Pike in the Morrisville section of the township.
