A Fairless Hills residentย is on track to compete at the National Miss America Scholarship Pageant later this year.

Sarah Jayne Hughes, 20, was crowned Miss Washington Crossing PA 2017 this past Saturday at a competition in Willow Grove. That win qualifies Hughes to compete in the Miss Pennsylvania Scholarship Pageant in June, which will take place in Pittsburgh. The winner of that pageant will go on to compete for the title of Miss America.

โ€œThis pageant season was a nail bitter. I ended up competing in the last pageant, for the last title I was eligible for. Hearing my name called truly was a relief and I was immediately filled with excitement. Competing in the Miss American Organization is simply what I love to do. Miss Pennsylvania week in June is my favorite week out of the entire year and I am so thankful to be given the opportunity to go back. This organization has already given me so many life lessons and has really helped form me into the person I am today. Hopefully in this case the third time will be the charm,” Hughes said in the release.ย

Hughes, who had never competed in pageant until 2015, has previously been named Miss Bucks County and Miss Neshaminy Valley.

Last year, the Miss America organization and its state and local affiliates made millions in cash and scholarships available.
