Bristol Borough has fallen to second place in the voting for the Small Business Revolution competition.

The news came Wednesday afternoon on the Small Business Revolution Facebook page. The borough fell to the second spot as Red Wing, Minnesota, a town of just over 16,000 residents, moved into the top spot.

The Facebook post said that it was a “very, very tight across the rankings” and noted there was still a day left to vote.

North Adams, Massachusetts; Georgetown, South Carolina; and Kingsburg, California rounded out the other competitors vying for the top spot.

Since online voting opened last week, many thousands of votes have been cast for Bristol and afforded it an early lead. As the voting nears its planned midnight Thursday night closing, the competition has stepped up and Bristol lost its lead.

Schools, businesses, nonprofits, media outlets, politicians and celebrities with local ties have been working nonstop since last week to drum up support for Bristol. The Bristol Borough: Raising the Bar committee has already held two rallies to pump up locals to vote and encourage their peers to do the same.

The Small Business Revolution competition is put on by Deluxe Corporation, which works with small businesses, to award one lucky town $500,000 to help it’s business community. The winning town also will be featured on an eight-part streaming series that will run on Hulu.

As Bristol’s central business district undergoes a revitalization, winning the contest would provide a major boost to the riverfront town.

Robert Herjavec of “Shark Tank” fame, one of the hosts of the “Small Business Revolution” series, said last week that he believes the winning town will need over 100,000 votes to take the prize.

You can vote by going to SmallBusinessRevolution.org on every device you own until voting ends at midnight Thursday.
