Neshaminy School Board members are planning to discuss securing access to their buildings’ roofs after a man climbed a Levittown school and jumped to his death.
During Tuesday evening’s School Board Facilities Ad Hoc Committee, school board member Robert Sanna brought up Monday’s incident in which a man in his 30s climbed onto the roof of the the Carl Sandburg Middle School and Albert Schweitzer Elementary School complex on Harmony Road in Middletown’s Levittown section and plunged from a chimney. Police told LevittownNow.com the death was likely a suicide and the man was not affiliated with the school district.

Several board members in attendance at the meeting agreed the district needed to talk about better securing roof access.
“We want to make sure you need a ladder to get on the roof of the buildings,” Board President Scott Congdon said.

Congdon said he remembers growing up in the 1980s and gaining access to the roof by climbing onto dumpsters next to a low roof. He explained the district needs to avoid accidental easy access options like that.

Neighbors said it is not uncommon to see kids climbing on the Levittown schools during the off-hours.
“It’s something we’re going to look at,” Congdon said.
