A confusing ballot question to increase the mandatory retirement age for Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices, district court judges and judge was ratified Tuesday.
Unofficial sate election results showed 50.6 percent of voters voted to raise the mandatory retirement age from 70 to 75.

The question, according to many, was misleading and confusing.
Shall the Pennsylvania Constitution be amended to require that justices of the Supreme Court, judges, and magisterial district judges be retired on the last day of the calendar year in which they attain the age of 75 years?
Before Tuesday’s vote, judges had to retire at the end of the year in which they turned 70. Moving forward, judges don’t have to step down until the end of the year in which they turn 75. There are processes to remove judges if they become senile.
