An outdoor mulch fire spread to the walls of a popular chain restaurant in Middletown.
Firefighters were called to the TGI Friday’s outside the Oxford Valley Mall around 1:15 p.m. Thursday for a brush fire. Officials at the scene then cleared most of the crews after it appeared the fire was stopped. A short time later, several fire companies were called back to the eatery after it was discovered the flames had spread into the walls of the building, Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said.

The original crews who remained on the scene were able to put out the fire before the returning firefighters arrived, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company Chief Frank Farry.
Firefighters were able to stop the fire in the building, but the restaurant was closed for several hours, McGuire said. An employee at TGI Friday’s said the restaurant will reopen around 6 p.m. Thursday.
The fire marshal said the damage was contain and no injuries were reported.
