In its 49th year, the Bristol Borough Mill Street Run again took to the streets Saturday morning.

Eleven high schoolsย entered cross country teams into the annual race, including Neshaminy, Pennsbury and Council Rock North high schools.

John Mundy has been involved in the race since its inception. For the 49 years since he created it, it has always been run on the Saturday immediately following Labor Day.

“I’m already excited about our 50th,” Mundy said.

For the 50th race, Mundy said nothing is set in stone yet, but that they “intend to promote it and we want to honor some coaches who have been involved in the run for decades.”

The idea for the race first came about when Mundy watched the ย Bristol Borough Christmas Parade when he was a young runner. He got the idea that it would be neat to hold a cross country race in town. A short time later, the Mill Street Run was born.

“I am very, very grateful for everyone who has helped this year and in past years,” Mundy said, adding that included all of the volunteers that were a part of the run and borough fire and police personnel who helped out.

At the end of the day, it is about creating a positive experience in Bristol, Mundy said.
