The inaugural “Coffee with a Cop” event held earlier this week by Middletown police was a success.

About 15 people stopped by the event at Garden of Eatin on Woodbourne Road in Levittown. Some came to chat and other just came to give their thanks to the township law enforcement officers.

“The coffee was great, but the conversation and the company was even better. We hit topics like services for the elderly, open carry laws, traffic safety concerns, community relations projects, the heroin epidemic and the Citizen’s Police Academy to name a few. It was good to share these personal interactions with the public we serve and let them know we share their concerns and will do whatever we can to address them,” said Officer Melissa Robison

Robison and Detective Aileen Torrente spent time being grilled by a 5-year-old who came to Coffee with a Cop prepared with plenty of questions. Robison said the two officers told the girl’s father she will make an excellent investigator one day.

Police worked to make Coffee with a Cop more a community conversation than scripted event where police led the conversation.

The department plans to hold more events to interact with the community, including scheduling one of a weekend, Robison said.
