Three Middletown officers proved policing is a brotherhood when they recently paid their own way to attend the funeral services for several of the five Dallas lawmen gunned down earlier this month in an ambush.

Along with officers from Bensalem, Falls Township, Lower Southampton, Upper Southampton and other departments across the country, Middletown lawmen Sgt. Pete Feeney, Officer Glenn McPherson, and Officer Mike Stum traveled to Dallas to remember the five fallen officers and show support for their peers.

Two of the officers traveled to Dallas at no charge courtesy of Jet Blue and a third officer hitched a ride with Lower Southampton police, Middletown Chief of Police Joseph Bartorilla said. He added that all three of his officers paid their own expenses during the trip to represent Bucks County at the various funerals.

“They weren’t sent, they wanted to go to represent our department and be with their fellow officers from the other Bucks County departments making the trip,” Bartorilla said.

The chief, a longtime Philadelphia officer who worked his way up the ranks before coming to Middletown in 2014, said law enforcement officials are like a family.

“It’s important to rally around and be there for your brother and sister officers during their time of mourning.  There’s strength, and comfort,  in numbers, and I believe the overwhelming show of support from the officers who traveled to Dallas from all over the country will go a long way to helping Dallas PD and DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) PD recover from this tragedy,” Bartorilla said.
