The merger between a company that operates a Lower Bucks County hospital and a major Philadelphia-based health system was formally completed Wednesday.

Thomas Jefferson University and Aria Health celebrated the completion of the merger that will create Aria-Jefferson Health. Aside from operating several hospitals in Philadelphia, the merged health system will also run Aria Health’s campus and emergency room in Falls Township and numerous outpatient centers.

“This is an exceptional moment for the Aria family of patients, physicians and staff,” said Kathleen Kinslow, CEO of Aria and executive vice president and chief integration officer for Jefferson Health.

“There are deep similarities between the cultures of Jefferson and Aria and a shared commitment to reimagining health care access and delivery.” Jefferson CEO Dr. Stephen Klasko said.

The merger comes a little more than a year after Jefferson completed a similar merger with Abington Hospital. In addition, Jefferson has been working on similar deals with Kennedy Health and Philadelphia University.

  • 5,000 physicians/practitioners
  • 5,770 nurses
