A number of area fire companies and rescue squads received state grants recently.
State Rep. Tina Davis (D-141) announced last week that $125,000 in state grant money has been awarded to area emergency responders.

“The funding through the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program is vital because our fire and ambulance units need a break from raffles, spaghetti dinners and other fundraisers as they strive to protect us,” Davis said. “Fortunately, the House recently passed legislation that would extend the program for another four years.”
While the house has passed H.B. 1877 to extent the grant program, the senate still has to vote before it would head to Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf’s desk.
Davis said in a statement that the legislation would add career EMS companies as eligible recipients if they are designated as a municipality’s primary EMS provider.

Davis said the funding, which comes from slot machine proceeds, helps fire companies keep up their stations and equipment.

- Bucks County Rescue Squad, $7,201;
- Levittown Fire Co. No. 2, $13,270; and
- Newportville Fire Co. 1, $13,789.
