The National Art Education Association has announced that the Pennsylvania Art Education Association will receive the 2016 Presidential Citation Award at the NAEA National Convention in Chicago, IL, March 17-19, 2016.

This prestigious award, determined through a peer review of nominations, recognizes a State/Province Association that has made superior achievements contributing to the improvement of art education. Local Harry S Truman art teacher and President of PAEA, Diane Wilkin, will accept the Presidential Citation award on behalf of PAEA.
“This award is being given to recognize excellence in professional accomplishment and service by dedicated art educators. Pennsylvania Art Education Association exemplifies the highly qualified art educators active in education today: leaders, teachers, students, scholars, and advocates who give their best to their students and the profession,” said NAEA President Patricia Franklin.
“This organization continually adapts and improves as it serves PAEA members. Many hours of volunteer work are completed ‘behind the scenes’ to make sure that quality art programs for students and professional growth opportunities for art educators are available across the state of Pennsylvania,” Wilkin added.

Truman’s Wilkin will officially take on the elected office of Vice-President Elect for the Eastern Region during the March 20th NAEA board meeting. The Eastern Region of NAEA is made up of 13 states and the overseas division. Wilkin will serve as NAEA VP-Elect for two years and then become the Eastern Regional VP serving for two additional years.
NAEA is the professional association for art educators. Members include elementary, secondary, middle level and high school art teachers; university and college professors; education directors who oversee education in our nation’s fine art museums, administrators and supervisors who oversee art education in school districts, state departments of education, arts councils; and teaching artists throughout the United States and many foreign countries.
