Coloring books aren’t just for the young.

This past Saturday, the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library in Bristol Borough began an effort to get adults coloring and relaxing.

Anyone over the age of 16 was welcome to drop in during the afternoon and color to their hearts’ content. Saturday’s event was theย first in a series of monthly gatherings that garnered more than 40 people in the first outing.

“We didn’t really know what to expect, but there are certainly more than I thought,” said Kristen Topley, the part-time reference librarian running the coloring for the day.

Through the crowd of more than 40 people, some came as individuals while others came from women groups. Many of those in attendance commented on the social aspects of getting together to color over a hot cup of coffee. Participants saw it as a way to socialize and relax in a comfortable environment.

One impact that the strong turnout will have is garnering higher exposure for the library’s other events and services.

The coloring will continue on a monthly basis.ย March 26, April 23, June 25, July 30, August 27, October 1, October 29 and November 26 are the scheduled dates for the rest of 2016. Coloring will always happen between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
