The vehicle wrecked in a fatal crash early Thursday morning was stolen, Bristol Borough police said.

The still-unidentified driver of the stolen pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene and was likely ejected from the vehicle when the crash happened on Old Route 13 near the intersection with Pond Street around 3 a.m., Sgt. Pete Faight told LevittownNow.com.

While investigators worked the fatal crash scene, the owner of the pickup truck awoke Thursday around 6 a.m. to realize his vehicle had been taken from the 2500 block of Palmer Avenue in Bristol Township overnight. The owner called police and they confirmed the deceased driver of the truck did not have permission to operate it, according to Faight.

Two witnesses told police they saw the pickup truck pass two people as it headed out of Bristol moments before the wreck. The truck swerved across lanes, struck the gravel shoulder,  overcompensated and rolled several times before slamming into a tree in a small wooded area, the sergeant said.

With the driver still not being known, police are looking for tips that could help them identify him. Faight said the man killed was a white male in his early to mid-20s with an “FOE” tattoo on his left inter forearm and the word “bird” on tattoo on his right wrist.

Fingerprints have been collected from the man’s remains and will be tested to see if that helps determine his identity.

Anyone with information on the subject of the deceased man is 215-788-7813 ext. 25.
