Middletown Township police have filed charges against a Luzerne County woman for running up thousands of dollars in purchases on a local resident’s credit card.
Vanessa Pinheiro, 37, of Kingston, Luzerne County, was arrested and charged with four identity theft related felonies. As of Friday, she remained in the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $50,000 bail.

According to court documents, Middletown police met with Pinheiro’s victim on December 31. The woman made claims that Pinheiro, while living at her home, applied for a Discover credit card in her name without her permission. The victim told police that Pinheiro charged $5,000 to the credit card through purchases made across northeastern Pennsylvania during a two month period.
The victim, who said she reported the fraud to the credit card company, told police she wanted to press charges against Pinheiro as part of her dispute with Discover.
Pinheiro was previously being held at the Monroe County Correctional Facility in Stroudsburg on unrelated charges.
