Before it was named Mary W. Devine Elementary School, the educational facility on Keystone Road in Bristol Township’s Croydon section was called George Taylor Elementary School.
In 1962, the school board voted to rename George Taylor Elementary School after Devine. The move came around the time Devine retired after teaching Bristol Township students for roughly 40 years.

“I don’t deserve it,” Devine told The Levittown Times in 1962.
Devine started teaching students in Bristol Township in 1923 and worked at the Laurel Bend School and Croydon School on State Road before becoming principal of the Taylor school.
The school’s original name was in honor of George Taylor, a Bucks County resident who signed the Declaration of Independence.

In 2015, the Devine building was taken down to make way for a new 1,300-student elementary school that is expected to open in September. The new school will be named Keystone Elementary School.
