Arrest Made In Bristol Twp. Triple Shooting That Left Two Dead

An arrest has been made in the 2014 Bristol Township triple shooting that left two men dead and one with lifelong scars.

Demetrius Baker, 29, of Philadelphia, was arraigned early Thursday morning on 22 counts including criminal homicide, conspiracy, aggravated assault and robbery. He was arraigned by District Judge Jan Vislosky and remanded to prison without bail due to the homicide charges.

Baker told detectives he was present inside 913 Winder Drive around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 when Tyrone Moss, 31, and Joshua Johnson, 29, were shot dead after a robbery gone wrong. Lamel Duffy, 24, suffered a gunshot wound in the incident and survived.

During a Tuesday afternoon interview with Bucks County Detectives, Baker implicated two other men, authorities said.

As of Thursday afternoon, Baker was the only person in custody in connection with the shooting, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

Baker said he met the two other suspects for the first time on July 7, 2014 in West Philadelphia. The three men intended to commit a robbery and theft at the Bristol Township home, according to court papers.

Upon arrival at 913 Winder Drive, Baker’s role was determined. He walked in with the two men, one identified as Anthony King in court paper work and found the three victims inside the home. One of the suspects had his face covered and was armed with a handgun.

Here’s what Baker told detectives happened the morning of the shooting:

Moss and Duffy were ordered to the ground and Johnson, who was confined to a wheelchair, was pulled to the ground.

When Johnson was pulled out of his wheelchair by King, a small handgun fell and the gun was confiscated by the robbers.

Baker found marijuana and cash in the bedroom. He took the items. The robbers also took a video game console, clothes, sneakers, a piggy bank, a revolver-style handgun and a wrist watch.

As Baker left the home with the loot, he heard gunshots from inside the home.

The two other suspects then came outside and Baker drove them to Philadelphia.

According to the affidavit attached to a search warrant filed by police days after the shooting:

Police were called to 913 Winder Drive after Duffy, who suffer a  gunshot wound, ran to 911 Winder Drive saying he was shot. Three officers were first to arrive and found Duffy shirtless and without pants in a pool of his own blood. Duffy, who has since moved out of Bucks County, was alert and told officers that he was shot at 913 Winder Drive by men wearing masks.

Officers checked out a Chevrolet Impala in the driveway of 913 Winder Drive. The vehicle’s driver-side door was open and there was a large amount of blood on and around the exterior of the vehicle. Police followed a trail of blood and spotted Tyrone Moss, 31, and Joshua Johnson, 29, shot inside the house.

Moss was found dead on the living room floor of the house with his hands bound with zip ties behind his back, and wheelchair-bound Johnson was found on the dinning room floor bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers noted a “strong odor of burnt marijuana in the home.” When the officers arrived, a heavy amount of marijuana smoke was found in the house where the shooting happened.

Two shell casings were found near Moss and another was found on the floor near Johnson.

Johnson, who was the only one of the victims living at 913 Winder Drive, was reported by a woman to have recently installed a security camera at the house. Detectives found a camera mount and broken wires near the front of the house, but no camera.

Moments before the shooting, Duffy reportedly heard the suspects say “it is flat line time.”

An evidence list compiled by detectives shows several containers of marijuana were discovered in the Winder Village crime scene, along with cell phones, a pair of latex gloves, handgun ammunition, close to $2,000 cash and two pair of zip ties.

Weeks after the Winder Village shooting, one of the suspects was killed in Philadelphia. The suspect was shot while driving, causing him to lose control and crash into a brick-faced building that ended up collapsing on him, sources told LevittownNow.com.

Officials have said in the past that drugs were likely the reason for the robbery.

The investigation has continued in the months since the 2014 shooting. While police have remained mum on the investigation, some information on possible suspects has leaked out.

Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler praised the work of Bristol Township detectives, the Bucks County Detectives and his prosecutors in solving the fatal shooting.

“This case was an amazing piece of detective work,” he said. “This could have gone cold case and some able-bodied people in my office and Bristol Township continued this (investigation.)”

At a memorial ceremony marking the one-year anniversary of the murders, Moss and Johnson’s families recalled their loved one and hoped police would catch those involved in the murders.

“We know the cops are doing their jobs,” Kim Wilson, Moss’ aunt, said. “But it still hurts. It’s like you can’t rest, like you’re getting that phone call every night.”

Heckler said detectives used several new innovative techniques to make their case. He also said shoe leather detective work also played a big role.

“We don’t want any retaliation,” Wilson told mourners in July. “We just want justice.”
