A fire that heavily damaged a home in Bristol Township’s Croydon section on Sunday evening remains under investigation.

The Sunday evening fire was the second that day at the house in the 2000 block of Buchanan Avenue.
An early morning electrical fire caused minor damage around 4 a.m. Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said the morning fire happened when chicken wire used in the construction of the early 1900s house became energized by an unknown electrical source and ignited the wood ceiling and floor joists. PECO came to the house and shut down power to the meter, and the residents were assisted by the Red Cross.
The more serious second fire happened around 8:15 p.m. and tore through the first floor living room. Croydon Fire Company Chief Tom Tryon reported flames shooting from the house upon firefighters’ arrival. PECO was called to the scene again and disconnected the power at the top of the pole.

“I determined the origin of the second fire was within the first floor wall, directly behind the electric meter and the incoming cable service box,” Dippolito said.
The homeowners and contractors were at the home as late of 3 p.m. and didn’t see any signs of smoke or fire. A neighbor who walked by the house around 4:30 p.m. also reported seeing no indication of fire, Dippolito told LevittownNow.com.

The fire marshal said the second fire may have been related to a power connection that was still energized.
No injuries were reported.
